We've discussed how the core teams sit and where the results are done in attempt to encourage others to join us and not appear a closed group. No hockeysticks here either :-)

Our cafe at Brierley was very popular when the run first started but as it was run on a volunteer basis (the park is looked after by an old miners welfare trust) issues started to arise with staffing and unfortunately subsequently closed. The core team relocated to a nearby golf club (another one that is very cheap! :) ) but as this is a little hidden from the park we lost a lot of footfall from runners and it became the same dozen or so lovely faces each week.

The park cafe has recently been taken over by an independent caterer and is again starting to see some more interest in after-run refreshments/food.

I'm always one for cafe if there's one handy or quirky nearby. Met some really friendly people to chat to especially at Preston, Lincoln (in an indoor bowl club), Sewerby Hall and Conkers.

When I did Fountains Abbey, members of the core team came over to chat to us in the cafe afterwards :)

We're definitely not too jolly hockey sticks. We do try & welcome or chat to newbies or visitors if we spot them.

TMW - Check out Victoria Dock when you move to London - make your own drinks in the community hut. Bit like Bromley used to be back in the day - it is many years since I was involved but the Bromley urn is a legend in these parts - we had one stolen but thankfully that was replaced from donations.

The NI ones seem to have an urn and free help yourself tea and squash (with a donations pot). Part of the difficulty here is I think event teams aren't supposed to handle any money...

Cafe culture is very cliquey in most places that I have visited.

At Pendle parkrun when I did it they had an urn & make your own with homemade cakes. They requested a £1 donation - bargain.

@iRicey - that is our set up and similar setups can be found at Queen's, Ormeau and Vicky Park. Other NI events go to a cafe. We are not supposed to handle money either.

I take nothing to do with the refreshments though. I don't handle the money. i leave that up to whoever is providing the refreshments. If they are away any week, I don't make any attempt to fill that as a volunteer role

I wonder this will be the weekend of a bit of a downturn in numbers? Quite a few cancellations, apart from anything else. I noticed that Hazlehead-Aberdeen is so frozen it is off already.

(My phone gave me Hazlehead-Aberdeen as an autocomplete on "l" which was a bit :-o )
