Merry Christmas & Happy New G(rrr)
Just googled a bit of parkrun history. The "points for volunteering" thing seemed to be in place in 2010, so it's not that recent that volunteering has been recognised. And the parkrun report for each week lists and thanks the volunteers by name each week. I think some people just like their t-shirts too?! :-) G

HG - reports way back when used to mention who helped. 2010 sounds about right. "What's in it for me?"

Ironically i know a few volunteers who never run and they don't have tshirts either.

gripewater anyone? :-)

I was on the core team back in the beginning of setting up our local parkrun - I remember the week we had 70 runners and worried how we'd ever cope if we had 100 - we now regularly get 550-600! I help out becuase I enjoy it, vol Tshirts weren't a thing back then. I do however wear my vol Tshirt, not because I'm proud, but because it's a very fetching shade of purple that co-ordinates perfectly with my specs and my funky leggings
shallow - moi?

I wasn't accusing you of not giving back, Gobi. Heck, you've given more back than I have.

Just I don't see why volunteers shouldn't get recognised in the same way as runners once they've given up a certain amount of time.

From the day that Cleethorpes parkrun was set up, it will have taken me nearly four years and 200 events to be able to claim a "badge of honour" that the rest of the community have been posing around wearing since year 1. But I'm no less a part of the event than them. Or am I?

DeeGee - been going since parkrun 69 - I have only run 354. I watched people run week on week to get to 100 inside 2 years while I took 3 years to make 50. MUCH LONGER FOR 100 thanks to my legs and then the trek to 250.

If you need a tshirt to feel part of something then crack on. I always felt part of it.

Volunteering is a choice. Ironically since 2014 i have backed away more and more as parkrun and the family feels far less inclusive than it use to be.

I make sure i do a bit but the love and real enthusiasm oh well that ship has well sailed.

It is a real pity for me that the Apprentice is over, I reckon that Alan (as I call him) would have bitten my hand off for my velcro numbers on T-Shirts idea.
