I got wristbands for me and my daughter, and the barcodes look a bit pale. I'll take a backup laminated paper one with me the first couple of times we use them, I think.

One of my local parkruns has got very naggy over volunteers lately. As well as a 'we were very close to not taking place this week as we couldn't fill the rota' at the briefing there have been recent posts on Facebook, one of them saying that if you've run 100 times you should have volunteered 25 times.
Now, I should say at this point that I have volunteered over 60 times, but I find this approach unnecessary. Yes, volunteers are a lifeline and yes people should do that now and again. But most people know this and I think shaming people is not helpful. Also, 1 in 4 is not necessary. I think three in a year should be enough. Thoughts?

3 a year was a figure I heard once and I frequently quote.
I have no problem being a bit naggy to those who just never volunteer.

I heard it was one volunteer slot for every 10 runs? We are struggling this week again but we've lost our regular DofE kids. We need some more of them cos we don't exactly have a big pool of regulars to nag to volunteer.

I’ve done a lot of volunteering lately between HH & beach parkrun as I’ve been injured. (Had volunteered 4 times vs 14 Parkrun’s prior to this). But I have found it a wee bit disappointing that it’s the same folks regularly volunteering. I’d have no issue with more reminders that new volunteers are needed.

I believe the official parkrun line was to ask peeps to volunteer 3 times a year. Personally, I work on run 10, then volunteer. However, I have also told a couple of the local core teams that if they are really stuck to give me a call.

Sent parkrun wristband people a photo of the deteriorating barcode and they've emailed back to say they're sticking a new one in the post. Fab customer service!

Our average turnout is over 400 these days. Of that number there is, I would guess, about 300 runners who have never yet volunteered. I don't think a bit of nagging is unreasonable, and if the parkrun you mention is genuinely in danger of not happening because of a lack of volunteers, it's actually necessary.

Greater turnout means that’s its easier for non volunteers to hide in the crowd - tragedy of the commons basically
