parkrun used to say 3 times a year, but they've removed that now, they want to keep the voluntary in volunteer

I've been a very bad volunteer lately as I'm keen to get to my 250. I've alleviated my guilt a little now by volunteering at junior parkrun

When i am run director, i have been known to say to the regulars who always offer first, "Thanks, but please wait and see if anyone new volunteers first, and if i'm stuck i will slot you in"
I'd much rather regular volunteers and run directors got a chance to run sometimes.

I've got a very very poor volunteering ratio. Only 4 times vs 96 runs. Mea cupla. Need to sort that out.

I have done my 25 volunteer bit and still waiting to order the t-shirt.
I have heard folks (well one person) complaining about having to wait around much longer than they would like when volunteering for the last runner/ walker.

We had some very slow (1h20) walkers earlier this year a couple of times. As RD I just take it as part of what I do but on a cold, windy January morning some of the volunteers got a bit impatient.

The 'volunteer nag' is rarely about persuading the regular volunteers to come forward - but more a reminder to the rest that it's a necessary part of a successful event. Unfortunately, there's no option to filter the recipients when you put out a call. Perhaps some more thoughtful wording would help.

In the other place there are frequent claims that volunteering in roles where you still get to run should not count. By facebooks standards I've only volunteered 3 times out of 90+ runs.
But by more inclusive counting my ratio is closer to 1:4, mostly due to the fact if I know I will be at my home run I will do the token sorting.
Currently I'm focused on getting to my 100 runs, but I should probably relax a little after that and try some other roles occasionally.

If we included token sorting in our volunteer roles, my volunteer:run ratio would look much better.

I do think that as we get into the cold winters at Aberdeen it may be harder to get volunteers for the standing around roles if the slower times are an hour or more- I've been pretty hypothermic after a volunteering stint with a 45 minute last runner
