No,we've never had that before either, Sallykate!
We did have an email yesterday from someone who'd taken their finishing token home the week before to ask 'How do I activate the keyfob thing?' They now know what it is!
How is it that people can not listen to the newbies briefing, the main briefing, not see the signs about not taking the finishing tokens home, etc, yet still manage to function in the non-running world ;-)?

A mate was spectating yesterday and he observed something odd: several runners not going over the line. That is, they veered off on the run in and so did not cross the finish or go down the funnel. (I presume they did it early enough to not get a time or there would have been much crossness around the finish area.)

We have that sometimes Dvorak but usually just one or two of the fast guys who are going to carry on and complete a longer run or something like that. I seem to recall a lot of discussion about a club (was it in Cardiff?) using parkrun as some sort of training run but not crossing the line or something, and it being felt that they were using parkrun without supporting it. I probably have a garbled memory of that issue!

LD, I think that in that case they were crossing the line but not being scanned resulting in a bunch of unknowns in the results (15-20 of them).
But after some discussion and because parkrun Is For Everyone, the Fetchfork yeomanry were stood down ;-).

Did they have their own finishing tokens? How do they manage to finish in the same position each week? Unless they're really quick and cross the line first and second I don't know how it's possible.

We have people run but swerve off the course at Newbury
Amazing but some people will not take a slow time as it messes up their average
The annoying ones are the ones that chase their time and run through the funnel and then try to avoid taking a token
Makes me laugh

I agree, it's madness when people want to keep up their average. I was looking at the consolidated club list for my home parkrun to see what my chances were in the club championship (basically I have the 10th fastest time so not very good). I noticed on that list I had the slowest time by 20 minutes - I scanned when tail running so my average tanked! Can't say I'm at all fussed by it.

The "Cardiff Incident" as I recall it was James Thie's training group running at Cardiff parkrun without barcodes because they were planning something else but when they got out the conditions were tricky underfoot so the parkrun course was safer. The interesting question is whether anyone would cared if they came in at 24:45.
