if someone presents a parkrun barcode that has been used before I presume it would have failed? i had experience of this where a runners own barcode was rejected (a wife had bought her hubbies spare by mistake, he happened to have already gone through scanning)

I think duplicate Athlete IDs are rejected by the app but I am not sure duplicate positions are.

It certainly lets you scan out of order, obviously, but I've never tried to scan same position twice. I think it probably would be smart enough to reject that, but just a guess.
My fellow scanner and I had weird scanning experiences - she had about 5 in a row that wouldn't scan and she sent to me and they scanned fine. I then had one that I couldn't scan and she tried it and it worked fine. Just the vagaries of phone cameras, presumably? G

I think it also has something to do with the ambient light (esp. bright sunlight and shadow!) as well as the phone camera, HG. My wristband does cause a lot more problems now than it used to when it was a "real" scanner rather than a phone camera plus software. I'm sure the tech will catch back up soon!

It does allow the same position token to be scanned more than once - you'd get a warning/highlight once it hits WebFMS that you had the same position scannd twice, but the app just accepts it whilst scanning and doesn't give a warning..

Thanks for confirming OTOS. Shame, because presumably there's no valid situation in which you would want to record two people against one finish position.

I guess it's probably along the lines that it's uncommon to happen generally, and you'd probably want the scanner to keep on scanning the next user, and keep the flow going than have them panic with an error message and trying to work out what's happened at the time?

HG, I had similar, about three wristbands that took ages to scan, they were all black but worked.
The scanner to my left had an issue with a dark purple wristband and passed the person to me and an scanned straight away.

I’ve found shading the barcode (on my watch) and the token make scanning easier.
Duplicate positions can be scanned (linked to different participants) They get flagged red in the results processing. We had it a few times and think that what happened was that the scanning app was picking up tokens from the bucket at the feet of the volunteer. Don’t think we’ve had a repeat since we warned the scanners to have the bucket next to them rather than in front of them.

I have a purple wristband and it is a bit difficult to scan at times, but they've never had to give up and send me away to have my ID written down (actually I always have one in the car/behind my phone/on my housekey ring anyway so I would just go and get that).
When I was away a couple of weeks ago I used a paper one on the back of my phone which scanned quicker than the wristband ever does!
