I assumed that when people talked about bread and dripping they meant bread fried in dripping and eaten hot, not cold beef fat butties
Nope. Customer was offered a choice of marg or dripping when ordering a beef sandwich - in a breadcake. The butcher I used most cooked its own beef and decanted the dripping into dishes, where it acquired a fatty, white layer.

Cinnamon toast is still a thing in hipster cafes. That's just butter, sugar, and a bit of cinnamon powder for flavour. (On the toast, of course. It wouldn't be cinnamon toast without toast.)
Not so far from a cinnamon roll in basic ingredients. Maybe a bit of egg in the latter, and/or milk.

Nothing is better for frying fish and chips than beef dripping. Admittedly not likely to do much for your life expectancy.

We often had banana and sugar sandwiches - and sometimes without the banana element!

My dad used to like sugar sandwiches and feed them to us too. He also had condensed milk sandwiches.
(Later in life he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes )
