My FiL buys low fat healthy yoghurts, which he eats with a topping of double cream and sugar.

Not only lakeland, snapeandsons.co.uk and loads on ebay Although I remember ours being used for blamcmange, not jelly. Jelly was in a round fli=uted type mould. Grandparents & great aunts & uncle always used to serve & have vinegar on cucumber. |

My mum had a mould like that. She used to make griesmeel pudding with it and let it set. Was lovely, with some fruit sauce or other. My Italian MiL used to give bread with everything. And olive oil and salt. No sugar in sight. In fact all our boyfriends were weaned off sugar too, as mum never used it either. Nor salt! |

Which is probably why I have never been able to stomach ready meals, not even posh fresh ones from M&S or Waitrose: too much salt and sugar!

Happy Eater - I wonder if their demise was in some way caused by their brand logo appearing to feature someone about to stick their fingers down their throat?

Besides the Berni meals (gammon & egg, not beef steak!), my early childhood memory of grandparent provided 'treat' meals was mashed banana and brown sugar sandwiches.

Mmm, I had brown sugar sandwiches. Demerara sugar, not the soft brown sugar. They were delish.

My mum was always partial to a bit of dripping on toast. I have an aunt who was known for her ability to sort out teens in meltdown. Cousins would be sent to her for a anything from a day to all the school holidays to sort themselves out. Part of her therapy was a regular dose of little chef pancakes. I am now willing to admit that my pre GCSE meltdown wasn't quite as big as I made out..... In my defence it was the only way I'd have been allowed. |

My Dad liked dripping on toast as well, and at other times a fried breakfast of sausages, egg and bacon with a slice of fried bread. One of the reasons he had heart attacks, although they were probably as likely to have been due to his heavy smoking.
