Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Tinned salmon and a dish of cucumber and onion in vinegar. What was that all about?

My mum had a thing about us having bread and butter with everything. A banana would have a slice of Mothers Pride with it. A similiarly aged work colleague once asked for bread and butter and 'nice pot of tea' in McDonalds. I think it was a reaction to rationing in their youth

If we were at my grandparents and we got fish and chips, they'd put bread and butter on the table along with a pot of tea.

We never had a rabbit mould but I kept my Mum's 'bobbly' one when we cleared out her house. I've never actually used it though

Oh yes, me too. Parents and certainly grandparents would always serve it. It used to be (in my lifetime) a side-order in cafés.

Fish and chips with bread and butter is still a thing in Yorkshire cafés! My auntie used to put sugar on lettuce ... reasons unknown 🤢

Bread and butter is great with fish and chips. Hot tea essential if food fried in dripping
