I couldn't do simultaneous interpretation. I did that annoying version where you waited until the person finished talking and then spoke for them, into and out of their language.

My pigeon (being generous to myself) several languages just about gets me through in the limited places I go. I'm well impressed and just a tad jealous of people who pick up languages easily. |

I'm never sure which is more impressive: folk who are more than comfortable in multiple languages or talented musicians. I'm pretty crap at everything

I don't think I could ever do simultaneous spoken translation. However, I have got to the stage in a couple of my Duolingo languages where sometimes when I hear an exercise sentence with my eyes closed, in my mind I can "see" images of the meaning instead of hearing the words and then translating them. It is said that learning a language helps to keep an old brain young and healthy. |

Derby Tup I think both are equally impressive, both require a lot of thinking and brain usage. To those two, I would add dancing because of the brain ability required to remember the sequences, time them with the music, interact with other dancers getting yourselves in the right positions relative to them, and putting various parts of your body in the correct shapes.

There's a lot to be said for a world where we all just speak English. (Any other language would do, but English seems to be the obvious choice.) |

Consecutive interpreting RichHL Don't diss it. There is a place for that and lots of people make their living doing it. |

To those three, I would add sex and flat pack furniture. Tried that once. Banned from IKEA for life. |
