That’s always first thing the postie drops through your door (along with any cards) on your 50th birthday up in Scotland. We don’t need to wait.

I'm 56 and got sent a poo stick test a month or 2 ago. They said they were rolling out colon screening to over 56s. I didn't think there would be a problem and it was thankfully negative. My guess would be running and any other activities that jiggle your insides about a bit help to keep you regular and hence lower your colon cancer risk - obviously diet and genes are factors - but I certainly feel better in my guts for regular exercise. On a related note, I think I heard that colon cancer is more prevalent in populations who barbeque a lot (burnt meat?) like South Africa and Australia? |

I just looked it up here wcrf.org but South Africa seems to be OK. However, that may be because the average life expectancy there is so much lower (61 for men) that people are dying of something else before the colon cancer gets them.

Shocking, isn't it. It's only 68 for women - I'm 68 Aren't I lucky not to have been born in SA.

I’d be interested to see these stats broken down into ethnic groups.

Just what I was thinking, ER. I suspect heart disease features pretty high, but abject poverty also has to play some part in those figures
