Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

That's fair enough HP

Even if lakes open again in Dec I don't think I will go back after missing four weeks of acclimatisation.

Feel the same, dragging my ass out early (and colder) doors to get to the lake for a short dip to restart acclimatisation.

It's not really worth it exercise wise.

Fetch me a resistance band and screw a hook in the wall!

Hi wonderful fetchies my mum (geordiemum) is taking up cold water swimming with some ladies from church. She turned up swimming costume only. Hired a wet suit last week but looking to buy one for her. But what do we need? I have a full semi dry suit from diving but that is too much my cousin had a suit from aldi but too small. She doesn’t want to spend a fortune but need her to be warm. O have booties and gloves from diving she can use at least for now.

Any advise on suits and other useful items (Xmas is coming, I’ve ordered her a thermos mug as an early Xmas present so she can have a warm drink when she comes out) would be greatly received. Thank you.

Swim specific wetsuit. Orca have a range of cheap(ish) ones round about the £100 mark but there are plenty of other brands and most have an entry-level suit. There are also some end-of-season sales going on at the moment if you look around.

If you buy a watersports wetsuit it'll be heavy and "sinky" rather than a swimming wetsuit which is "floaty". Some swimming wetsuits are marketed as triathlon wetsuits.

You might be able to source a bargain ex-rental or demo wetsuit. Keep an eye on the manufacturers' websites.

There didn't seem to be a thread devoted to open water swimming, so I thought I'd start one.
