Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Question; the last two swims I have done the water was "apparently" 17 degrees so not really cold. Both times the skin on the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet itched horribly. I never experienced this before, is it a thing? I may try wearing my socks and gloves if its the cold water.

Anyone?

I’ve seen posts about this on the outdoor swim society but never experienced it. I’ll see if I can find anything.

It’s probably cold induced urticaria - very itchy and annoying but not worrying, I sometimes get it in the shower after a particularly cold run.
If it’s very annoying an antihistamine will help

Ah yes, urticaria is the term I’ve heard before.

I wonder if decent swimming socks and gloves would help?

Worth a try. The gloves helped my hands feel less painful.

I think it might be the same process that leaves me sneezing after cold water swimming. Antihistamine stops the symptonms.

There didn't seem to be a thread devoted to open water swimming, so I thought I'd start one.
