Thought it was the old boxing conundrum of the fighter coming forwards, swinging more (missing lots but landing too) vs the fighter backing off but landing more.

It’s not fencing; effective aggression, defence, ring generalship are all part of the scoring.

Close fight could have gone either way so not a robbery a la Roy Jones for me.

I think it's right that boxing gets retired from the Olympics.

I've just been listening to 5live about the other controversies and the response IBA press conference (in response to the IOC one) and whatever the merits of the situation and whatever your thoughts on it, it is undeniable that the IBA have made the whole situation a lot worse

I now understand why they have been suspended by the IOC.

(Personal opinion is that boxing should be retired full stop, but that's likely a minority opinion)

What a night at the track 😍😍 absolutely buzzing. Sat next to a very sweet Norwegian family and their poor kids were a bit upset about the 1500m.

Lizzie Bird was brilliant in 3000m steeple and the long jump was good competition just below us.

Given what we know about brain injury and the issues we are seeing in retired rugby and NFL players it’s incredible that boxing is still promoted and celebrated. I wouldn’t be sad to see it omitted from the Olympics going forward.

Couldn't find a thread so thought I would start one.

Who else is off to watch or who is watching at home?

We're doing Lille and Paris and a mix of sports. Currently trying to find travel insurance that includes ticket cancellation as some of the trains in the UK might be difficult and we have some internal French trains to do as well.

Also need to work out the new Paris metro ticket/app combo (Navigo I think).
