Ingebrigtsen looked very nervous when he came out into the track.

In terms of “stacked” I can’t remember if it’s been pointed out here but in 1992 Carl Lewis won the 100m (once Johnson was DQd) in 9.92. 8th place in Paris was 9.91. In fact all the places ran world bests for their positions.

Other stuff too of course.

But it's like comparing football teams, cricketers etc across eras.

Straight comparison of times doesn't tell the whole story.

Johnson was DQd in Seoul 1988 and Carl Lewis upgraded to gold. Linford Christie won in 1992.

With the 100 the interesting thing is the front isn't faster than the Bolt era.

And give it a few weeks, and people will only remember the winners and medallists. Nobody will remember who came last in a time that beat whatever previous winners and all the previous 8th place finishers.

Re: the 1500, the classic one, of course, was the Decker/Budd rivalry. At least this one didn't end like that. Funnily enough, I ended up working for a couple of years with Wendy Sly, who landed the silver in that race. Really wished I'd had a good chat to her about that but we were in different departments and I wasn't so much into running at the time.

About This Thread

Maintained by Curly45
Couldn't find a thread so thought I would start one.

Who else is off to watch or who is watching at home?

We're doing Lille and Paris and a mix of sports. Currently trying to find travel insurance that includes ticket cancellation as some of the trains in the UK might be difficult and we have some internal French trains to do as well.

Also need to work out the new Paris metro ticket/app combo (Navigo I think).
