AIUI the rule used to specify contact but once slo-mo cameras revealed that everyone lifted all the time, they modified the rule to state that it must appear to the naked eye as if contact is maintained!
A bit like cricket where bowlers were supposed to keep their arm straight until it was discovered that none of them did.

They're Race Walking, OS, which I'd say is a different thing to just walking.

of all olympic sports, walking - not least due to the issues mentioned above - is the one I'm least interested in. Oh, and the dancing gymnastics thingy.

Fencing. It comes down to who hit first and often it's by fractions.
So if you're actually duelling, which is where the sport started, and you stab your opponent first but they get you just a fraction later you're still both just as dead, so it's a draw, right?
Seems like a silly way to judge that particular sport to me.
(It's not something I've studied in great details and I'm sure I'll be told about the great skill and athleticism that is required and that there's a lot more to it that that, and I'm sure it's true. Still, both dead. Seems pretty cut and dried to me. ;-))

Interesting thought Nellers. Don't they also have about 15 rounds anyway, so they'd both be dead 15 times!
