The cheer from the French crowd whenever Marchand’s head comes up is fantastic!

20k walk is on. Mrs SP is convinced that most of the walkers are not as that they going faster than I can run!

The world record for 5k race walk is 18.21. That's quite quick. Whenever I watch race walking I find it very suspicious that they are touching the ground 100% of the time.

I think tech in the shoes would answer it.

if you had tech in the shoes they would have to slow down. I believe at the moment they have to appear as if they are not lifting to the naked eye but slow-mo cameras show they are lifting all the time.

Their gait looks incredibly uncomfortable - do they suffer from bad hips later I wonder?

Mind you it's no sillier than breaststroke really. "Swim, but use a technique that isn't very fast".

lol

I don't know much about the sport, but isn't there a rule about them having to have at least one foot down only at certain points and not all the time? might have dreamt that!

I've seen a few slo-mo shots over the years and it proves that they are not in contact with the ground all the time. So it seems that anyone who gets carded or disqualified can consider themselves unfortunate to have been caught when others have got away with it.

About This Thread

Couldn't find a thread so thought I would start one.

Who else is off to watch or who is watching at home?

We're doing Lille and Paris and a mix of sports. Currently trying to find travel insurance that includes ticket cancellation as some of the trains in the UK might be difficult and we have some internal French trains to do as well.

Also need to work out the new Paris metro ticket/app combo (Navigo I think).
