I guess that is the challenge with all of these things. In much of the UK, it's never going to be invasive. There are some legal requirements about disposing of them too, which I don't think the Guardian article mentions - you're not supposed to put any material from them into green bins, for example.

Whilst out walking today, I saw gorse in bloom. Too early! There are also leaves emerging on my lilac. First shoots of bulbs emerging (crocus, possibly daffodil).

Whilst looking up about gorse, I found this website lizzieharper.co.uk Just had a quite look, but may be of interest to the plant minded. Hmm, she's in Hay on Wye - anybody know her?

I have been introduced to her years ago but can't pretend to know her.

There is a variety of gorse in bloom most of the year, hence kissing is in season when gorse is in bloom.

I’ve finally got round to doing something with my butternut squash. Cut the end and licked it as suggested and no sour taste so I’m roasting it with some homegrown parsnip and will make it into a soup for lunch.

Only found the time because our Christmas plans went up in smoke when my son tested positive for Covid just before our planned drive to Scotland yesterday.

Speaking of parsnip. Will it get any bigger now if I leave it in the ground? I’m guessing not.

I think they get sweeter with a frost? Don’t think they grow, but I’m pretty certain it’s ok to leave them in the ground.

I had to go shopping for vegetables today because the harsh frosts at the beginning of the month turned all my cauliflowers (about 20 of them) to mush, literally. I'm digging them up for compost.
My Brussels have tiny buttons on them.

Back to being soaking wet out there so can't do a thing for sinking into a pit. Parsnips are great due to the frosts...raised beds still producing cabbages, onions already in one.
