Thank you Meglet, that's really useful. I'd forgotten there are various formulations, will put some thought into that for sure.

I was quickly given blood tests and started on HRT due to age and risk of oestopororis. I went for the gel oestrogen as heard about others having issues with the patches not sticking

Be clear about what you might want and know what's possible. I had a GP tell me I couldn't have vaginal cream because I was on oral HRT but I knew (thanks for V'rap) that that was untrue so asked her to check.

I finally started on the gel as I figured patches would just fall off with sweat. I swear that after only a few days of a single pump of it I felt better but maybe it's in my head.

I have now started adding in the progesterone tablets in the evening which is what I was worried about as I couldn't tolerate the mirena coil. I haven't felt amazing after only a couple of days (I had the coil ripped out within a week) but will give it a chance. I started taking the progesterone a couple of days late as I forgot, oops, but hopefully that doesn't make too much difference. I don't have periods any more so was supposed to just start taking it on day 16. I'd remembered by 18 :-/

I'm also paranoid about putting on weight with this stuff- has anyone noticed any weight change either way with HRT?

In my experience HRT doesn’t cause weight gain. What I put in my mouth is much more impactful :-) the main difference I’ve noticed since being perimenopausal is I tend to carry fat more on my belly than just all over my body.

Definitely round my middle, and much harder to lose. But generally happier on HRT, I noticed a difference in the first week.

No weight gain from systemic HRT for me. I did put quite a lot of weight on at one point while taking HRT, but there was another explanation and the weight came off when the other explanation no longer applied.

I am on oestrogel and a daily progesterone tablet. It hasn't affected my weight at all.
