I've given many people a hard stare after they asked "Where's Stafford?" and I answer "It's in Staffordshire" and they still look blank. To be fair, Stafford took some getting to last week. We went past somewhere called Barton in the Beans! If you like Barton in the Beans, I live near Thornton-le-Beans. I drive past the sign at least a couple of times a week and still chuckle. Nice pub there.

I live across the Trent from Baton in Fabis. Strangely, the name originates from an older name, "Barton in the Beans" (Fabis being Latin for 'bean', in the ablative plural), apparently referring to the beans grown in the village.
