Stafford is divided into three - “Near Quimby”, “Near Gobi” and “Near Crewe”.

Stafford has iirc Britain's oldest wallpaper.

I'm from:
Near Stirling
Near Falkirk
20 miles from Glasgow

And in a callback to page 517, my mate was telling me at parkrun how he'd bought this Amazon Black Friday deal, a special light for his toilet.

Sigh
The biggest problem with Stafford as a County Town is that it is a shithole. I had to go in last week to pay a cheque into the bank, and encountered more litter and broken glass than I've seen for a while. This was on a Tuesday afternoon, it wasn't like I'd beaten the street cleaners out.

Oscar the Grouch
Expect more of the same, Sigh. No funding for local authorities means choices have to be made. Unless there is a proactive Town Council that will step into the breach, this is the future. It will take more than a decade to get back on any kind of footing, even if they changed things today (spoiler - they won't). But these things are the visual realisation of how things are when you have cut everything else and there's no more service realignment/rationalisation/ transformation/any other word for cuts, left.

Sigh
Sad but true, Oscar. And this is in a Tory 'safe seat' (currently Bill Ca$h)

Sigh Noticing litter is I think a downside of being retired ;-) I've got so annoyed with litter in our area that I joined a volunteer litter picking group when I retired. One of the things on my list of 'things to do' tomorrow is to clean up an area on a quiet country lane where I walk my dog, which is also frequented by individuals who deal drugs and dump their takeaway cr*p!! Brings out the Victor Meldrew in me!!

Sigh
Well done, stilldreaming! I often collect litter when out walking the dog, but Stafford town centre took it to another level (or depth).

I'm not going to describe where I live as "near Suffolk".

I can describe my home as "Surrounded by nearby North Yorkshire".

(Unless I'm filling in a form on-line using the Royal Mail's postal address rules. Then I have to ignore the city's unitary authority status again and be part of North Yorkshire, else I can't ever click on the Save/Send/Next button! Funny, because it doesn't think Leeds is part of West Yorks, or Manchester is part of Lancs...)
