I assumed that mean pork pulled by vegetarians.

Which has meaning, but is rather unkind of the vegetarians.

(I'm still struggling with the concept of non-vegan honey, and non-vegan avocados.)

surely that would be pulled-vegetarian burgers? The avocado thing is very much down to how the individual defines veganism - if moving animals around the country by truck so that they can pollinate plants is considered to be an unnatural use of the animal, then strictly it would be non-vegan, but that would also rule out loads of other things like broccoli, cucumbers etc. Bees are shipped around to loads of the big producers where the natural pollinators have been driven out / killed off over the years.

Because the fertilisation process involved bees who had been moved into the area specifically to do that job, i.e. The bees were in some way being taken advantage of by humans, and it wasn't in any way for the benefit of the bees.

I assume it infringed their Apian Rights, somehow.

From talking to a vegan friend I gather that a big concern with honey is the method of extraction. Apparently it's common practice to lob everything into the mixer, bees and all to process and extract what they want and dump the rest. Really not good for the bees :-o

I'm guessing that, for avocados, bees are moved to where they're wanted and the hives destroyed if/when their efficiency dips or at the end of the season.

:-o Never mind the difficulties of being green ... it's not easy, being a bee! :-o

The bees (for avacados, almonds etc) are in truck mounted hives. They tour the plantations doing their thing and then moving on. It's not a natural existence as such but I'm not sure how unpleasant/distressing it is for them. It may be.

I doubt if anyone mills the bees to extract the honey though. There is such an issue with shortages of bees I can't imagine anyone killing them off prematurely. I could be wrong.

There are concerns with beekeeping practices as there are with other livestock farming practices, though I was told by a relative who produces honey on a fairly large scale that beekeepers value their colonies and it's a myth that they tip the entire contents of the hive into a centrifuge, bees and all (I also believed that to be the case for a long time). The farming of non-native bee species, or using non-native bee species as pollinators, is thought to have led to the decline in native bee species, and "stealing" the combs of honey from the hive and replacing them with a sugar solution is something vegans naturally disapprove of.

Honey's one of those pain-in-the-neck ingredients that's included in a lot of granolas and cereals and stops them from being vegan, rather gratuitously.

The elastic waist is adjustable for a comfortable fit, and the bottom of the pants are zippered so you can cover your entire leg, until your shoes.
