My daughter gave me this book for my birthday. One for wet winter nights I reckon!

Another map lover here.

I've had to rein in my urge to buy an OS map of every place we visit. I've been buying little yellow maps instead. I'm getting quite a collection and they are small enough to comfortably live in the glove compartment in the motorhome :)

Are we all OS aficionados here, or are we allowed to say that Harveys are actually better in some regards ;-)

Harveys are much better for navigation. Who cares if say the NT own a chunk of land?

Harveys maps depend too much on who did the survey and what the budget was. OS are much more consistent and at 1:25 are generally better for their level of detail. Where good Harveys maps score are their interpretation of contours. OS maps are very literal which doesn't always present the visible picture very well. The best maps present the contours in a way that allows the user to build an image that matches what they will see.

Like the sound of this thread.
I have culled a lot of OS maps due to space, and relevance, as we live in Spain. But will always get a map for a new adventure. Reading Spanish maps is an adventure in itself😊

I have one on my wall from 1907 of the local Cornish parish. It really is quite different, the (now taken away) railway is like the central artery through it. Now you'd struggle to find where it went.
