I used to collect maps for anywhere we stayed, but the SWCP & internet cured that.
I now (for UK) use bing maps, OS version, copy & paste to ppt, then an airport security bag and printed series of sheets for the walks / areas. Easier than a big map, stay dry (mostly) and can be stuffed in a pocket.

Um that's pretty much what I do. I have all the UK OS maps on subscription through the Anquet app. I print the bits I need in A4 chunks and laminate them with a cheap laminate. Useful because a) I can blow them up for old eyes to help reading on the run and in poor light and b) when they blow away in the middle of a BG support you don't get too stressed by it πŸ˜‰
But one of the plus points of Anquet for me is that I can also get historical maps through the app as well and all are accessible on all my devices on and off line. So I'm never without my maps πŸ˜€

ff - very similar - I purchased quite a few OS digital maps - mainly by national park before they switched to a subscription model. After a few moans, they loaded all my purchased maps into the subscription, so I can have those on my phone, not needing a signal. But it's rare I use them vs A4 folded version.
*if of interest, I used to get OS maps sub free with Trail Walking magazine subscription, but that's dropped to 50% off in the last few years. But still seems good value.

another lover of maps (but never been tempted by orienteering). Following this as I would love to know recommendations of the best way to download OS maps as I still find them much easier to follow than Google maps.

Another map lover geek here 😊 Constantly referring to them to see where is where!
The ViewRanger app on my phone is absolutely brilliant. An instant OS map source on or off line so is perfect for out walking when I’ve forgotten to bring a map.
