All the help/advice given to me prior to the event worked! – except the final five miles that is - needed to, 'dig-in' a bit. Having said that, I felt Ok at the end, legs Ok – and breathing Ok (Asthmatic). Finished in 4hrs 9mt, 3rd place in VET70 cat’ will do me very nicely. A MASSIVE, ‘THANKYOU’ to all the incredible valuable advice given which I took on board and it worked! |

There are some pretty tidy, even looking splits in your log there Pascal - well done, no great evidence of a tough last 5 miles from the data so if you were feeling it then you definitely "dug in" well!! 3rd Vet 70 is very impressive!!! Cracking stuff! |

I’m in for ‘23 too. It’s a little steep Vixx but only a tenner more than Newport or Abingdon with the Launch entry price. Well done Pascal Recovery has gone so well I raced a 5K this evening 🤣 |

How eye watering is the price ? Has it gone up from £55?

Still £55 I think but that may be an "early" price. £78 if you want some extras like a training t-shirt. And, it seems, the tracker is being ringfenced to these premium entrants too. (The personalised bib comes with the £55 deal too). This is the £78 "deal". "Full entry into the 2023 adidas Manchester Marathon is a guaranteed place on the start line plus: - Personalised running bib posted in advance (UK residents only) - adidas training t-shirt (posted Sept) - Predicted location tracking - Discount for you or a friend into October Half" Given that Adidas are sponsoring this, paying £23 for a t-shirt plus a bit of electronics with no marginal cost seems pretty poor value for money. |

Whilst I recognize the tracker is not listed in the bog-standard entry, I'd be amazed if they went to the trouble of adapting the chip technology website interface to only have tracking on the day for those who have paid for the full entry. I took the price difference as primarily to be for an adidas t-shirt (many people pay more than £23 for one of these) and a discount code for the HM. There is (or there was when I looked earlier in the week) also a limited number of entries for £99 for two "buddies" to enter. |

That was my thought too Nelly, though it is pretty simple for them to implement two categories of runners and give one the tracking and exclude the tracking from the others. They've got to find some way of making it a different experience for that extra cash. Some people will get a bit irate if they've paid for the extra with the tracking and then discover everyone got it anyway. (Not many people, but some!) The buddies entry is a good idea, plenty of clubmates who could coordinate that sort of thing to save £5. Things maybe I would pay a small premium for over and above the standard race fee might be reserved access to a pre or post race massage on site, perhaps a pack of gels sent out pre race, race photos included maybe. They could do an exclusive "lounge" with maybe a higher toilet / runner ratio, or a bag drop right at the start / finish. Limit the access to those sorts of things to a couple of thousand runners and charge £25 extra for the privilege and maybe I'd stump up the cash. |

£78, heating, food or a marathon? That's a lot of money.

It is a lot of money, I totally agree. Taunton Marathon (same day as Manchester) was £25. Trouble is, have a look around big races in Europe and US, and they aren’t cheap. Mixing currencies but from a quick Google: - Berlin €150 - Boston $255 - NYC $358 - Valencia €60/€90/€120. It does make London look a bargain. There are cheaper road races out there abroad. Sofia, Malta and Marrakech were all very affordable when I did them. I got Seville off the waiting list this year and paid more than I would have liked (€74), but that’s just what it was when I entered about 3 weeks before the event. |
