Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I think there’s a risk of the virtual being seen as a “second-class” London if they offered both.

But there’s a good chance that I’d sign up for it if they offered it :-)

Goodness Alice, I hadn't realised that places were so in demand - I'm sure it's been done to death elsewhere but has running become ever so popular, or do they just allocate more Golden bond places nowadays (when i last was interested it seemed you had a 1 in 4 chance to get in)

It really is totally random. My friend entered for the first time last year and got a place. I was so happy for her.... ;-)

I would hope that the virtual was on a different date otherwise Fetchpoint may be lacking in supporters - unless we did our marathon after the actual!! That could be interesting, considering how knackering fetchpoint is!

Maybe offering a virtual would mean more actual places would be available if people opted against travelling.

It's not so much that running has become so popular, but wanting to do the London Marathon becomes very popular immediately after each year's event when ballot entries open ;)

I can't imagine wanting to do a virtual when we're back to having an actual race calendar again.

I think it’ll depend on whether I’m running next year rather than just walking. I’d rather do an actual race if I can run but a walking marathon would be too slow for a ‘real’ race.

I don’t suppose for a moment I’ll get a ballot place so I might do Manchester Marathon, now also in October next year.

Next year Alice, if there is a virtual option, come to Sunny Scunny to do it with me instead of traipsing round Downpour Devizes :)

And hope it’s not Soggy Scunny and Dry Devizes ;-)
