In case anyone else is interested:

Thank you for getting in touch and we hope you are well.

If it is not possible for you to run with a phone, you are permitted to only use another device to track your run. You will then have the opportunity to upload this via the Virgin Money London Marathon app once you have completed the 26.2 miles.

As I understand you don't have a smartphone, is it possible for you to borrow a family member or friends in order to upload your data?

Further information on this process will be available via the app in the coming days. Please note this must display the full distance, time and date of Sunday 4 October.

If there is no way that this is possible, please contact us after the event. We will need the same information - a record of your route showing a map, the full marathon distance, time and date of Sunday 4 October.

Full information on the app, including our frequently asked questions, can be found on this page of the Virgin Money London Marathon website.

We hope you have a fantastic run on Sunday!

I do like the fact that more information on this will be available via the app (that I can't access) in the coming days - it's Friday afternoon!

Problem solved for me though.

I will not be using the app!
My phone is there for emergency and if I use the app it won't be available for emergency

I just read an article on the BBC news channel...

'Staff and athletes in Sunday's London Marathon must wear social-distancing technology around their necks.'

Apparently it makes an audible sound when they are too close to someone else, that's going to make for an interesting race
