I remember the days when inaugural events needed support. I recall sending an email around work for the first Eastleigh Parkrun and I think Heaton Park had about 35 at their first event now it attracts 700 runners

Tomahawk Mike, I believe the test events are logged on the test system rather than the production system and thus not properly uploaded anywhere. Its not an unworkable idea but would possibly need some changes to webFMS

Steady Edina - Nothing wrong with only a handful of people turning up to an event. It can be less intimidating to first timers, make them more likely to return and also avoids direct conflict with existing park users - giving all concerned time to get used to the new event taking part in their local park/public space. The event team also has the chance to adapt and iron out any problems as the event grows naturally. The first event I went to had 46 runners ( it would go down to 10 during winter ). Had I been going as my first event this week to the same place, there would have been over 500 which I would have found rather uncomfortable as a first timer and I would have been unlikely to have returned. I am still not sure in what way existing parkrunners travelling from outside the local area actually 'support' at an inaugural.

I suppose the worry back then was would this event actually take off. It still amazes me how popular parkruns have become. I actually prefer smaller events

The main reason I follow this thread is to see if there is any news of a Loughborough parkrun.

I'm here to keep an eye on the trolls (but I also like seeing the rumours flying round).

About This Thread

There may be an inaugural parkrun happening near you. Best to check with the local parkrun volunteers to see if they want you to know about it or not.

Otherwise there are plenty of already established parkruns to go to in the UK and abroad, see: parkrun.org.uk
