Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Let's talk about inaugural parkruns after they've happened.

Friend passed me an article from local Shetland press indicating they are trying to get funding for a parkrun on Bressay (not the main island). Extreme parkrun tourism opportunity, would be most northerly in UK by a long way (sorry Elgin)

Wow :-o Fifth largest island in Shetland, population 362. That would be a tourist collector's item. But you can have a spa break there, and there is a pub.

From a chat with the Leeds parkrun ambassador today it would appear that:

a) Chevin Forest is struggling with funding - being well away from the deprived areas of Leeds it is very unlikely to receive funding from the City Council, unlike Middleton Park - which itself would appear to be a few months or more away from any start date - oh and the MP link on the right has an erroneous bracket at the end!

b) There is also interest in setting up a parkrun in Potternewton Park in Leeds.

c) Scarborough is very much on the backburner due to lack of suitable venues.

Chevin Forest must have the longest gestation period of any parkrun. It had a Facebook page back in 2010.

There really could do with being one in Northumberland. There is Druridge Bay bug if you live in the Borders it's as quick to drive to Newcastle as Druridge. Other than parts of nor5herm Scotland it must be one of the biggest areas not covered by a parkrun.

mole_thing/Jovi Runner - I don't recall the Chevin trial events held in 2010 (despite having trained up there and regularly ran Chevin Chase etc since late 1990s) but there was the short-lived Run Sunday series of free 3 mile (approx) runs in 2012 which you may be thinking of.

There may be an inaugural parkrun happening near you. Best to check with the local parkrun volunteers to see if they want you to know about it or not.

Otherwise there are plenty of already established parkruns to go to in the UK and abroad, see: parkrun.org.uk
