My new (2021) book 'Strength and Conditioning for Dancers' is far more useful and informative than any running fitness book I've come across -and many of the weight training books too. It's an individual thing I know but - for instance - the book Greg thinks so highly of (V-rap will remember) is not for me, and neither, tbh, is the much lauded Stacey Simms.

Nothing beats a good coach as we keep insisting. But the right book is cool too!
(just that you need to kiss a lot of frogs and will have a weighty library for the Oxfam shop)

Just Googled that book and seems to be part of the same family of books as the running version all presumably done by experts in their fields.

I’ve been watching these PTs for a while and am really curious about how they train clients: ultimateperformance.com

I’m considering trying it for a month and see what I can do… partly because I want to lose some body fat and don’t seem to be able to do that without accountability.

cathrobinson you wouldn't want to fail to reach your targets at that price, seems expensive to me.

Yeah, that’s part of the thinking, although it is very expensive indeed.

Price of one night in a fancy hotel or a premium pair of cycling shoes. Could be decent value, depending on what you actually get.

It's also the amount I'm thinking of dropping on 14 months membership of the leisure centre near Dad's house. If I'm there a lot in winter it'll stop him getting fretful about me being out after dark. It would pay its way just with a handful of visits a month.

A month doesn't seem long enough to me and that seems a high price to pay to try the service. Do you have to pay up without having any sort of consultation beforehand? Is there no local gyms that offer a PT service given the price you're prepared to pay?

Sounds like a good idea, V’rap.

SPR, I’m already a member of a gym that does small group PT, but the downside is you mainly get the workout of the day, and not much specifically for the individual. If I went with a different option it would be short term and I’d just take a break from my current gym.

Mm, yes Cath, you've generally sounded pretty happy with your current gym and the trainers there. Could one of them perhaps do something specific to you if you explained your immediate goals? It's usually good if a coach already knows quite a bit about you and how your body works and reacts.

Or have you actually lost a bit of faith with the current gym?

And in case you're wondering about that title, well, I like alliteration and one can be too po-faced about the use of girl/lady/woman.
