I had to read it a few times! And yes, SPR, I follow them on social media. None of their gyms near me, or I would maybe go.

cathrobinson The UP performance website looks full of hyperbole, the “maximum results minimum time” stuff and all their PTs being “next level”. Physiology will do what physiology does in its own time. They mention being in collaborative research with Cambridge Uni and Uni of California but there are no links to this. I have no academic background so don’t know if that’s normal.

The client transformation pics look genuine enough, but they use all the before/after tricks to make them look better: front lighting/back lighting, un tanned/tanned, serious face/smiling, unshaven/shaved, relaxed/tense, different clothing.
Websites are always full of hard sell and only ever mention the positive points, never any negative points, they only feature success stories never the less than successful or failure stories…no one ever has a 100% success rate.
The best way, I think, is to contact them see if they’re a fit for you. If it’s a free initial discussion/assessment & it costs you nothing financially then all it will cost you is some time. I suspect you may get the hard sell/pressured in to signing up quickly (that’s based on nothing but an impression I’ve developed of them from looking at their website, nothing fact based) so take your time and don’t sign up if you’re not comfortable with them. Have your questions written down before making contact, make sure you have them with you at first assessment/contact.

Thanks, Have yourself Musashi lil Christmas, that is helpful. At the moment I’m sticking with what I know can work - albeit I won’t get the results of a ‘transformation’ but that isn’t necessarily what I’m looking for anyway. I want to shift a bit of body fat - that’s my primary goal at the moment - and I know the main way I can do that is through food choices.

Oh and yes, I emailed them an enquiry and I’ve had a follow up email every day so far asking me to sign up :-)

HK makes a very good point about the photos.

I'm going to take some photos today and compare in six weeks to see if training my upper body three times a week will result in a visible difference. I'm struggling a bit for motivation, but having that self-set deadline might help.

Of course, if there's no visible difference I might be disappointed but at the very least I should see myself able to use heavier weights.

What a good idea, Sally - although six weeks might be pushing it for visible results.

Although perhaps long enough as it's not like you are new to weight training. I did something similar with a six week six pack a year or two ago. It did work (help) as long as I got my angle in the bathroom mirror right!

I mean arms and shoulders really. Bit more of a bicep bulge or deltoid definition.

when I did my SPR pictures I just stayed in the same place - no faffing with clothes or tans or lights! CBA with that!

Yesterday I did some upper body work - I am aware of this but not sore .... does this mean I got the level right or should have done more?!

My good intentions about upper body work (mainly arms) have so far come to naught.

Pity because tonight I have an hour and a half of The Waltz and we've been warned our arms will ache. You just have to hold them up for, like, ever. Gracefully. Precisely. Mind you ballet barre is the same!

TBH only you can know that, Pix. We don't always need DOMS to tell us the level of effort was spot on.
