Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

eL Bee! tried the beam but wasn't convinced it would hold his weight. There's 30kg less of me.

I discovered my gym has an assisted nordic hamstring curl machine today. It's always been awkward trying to do them (I was using the lat pull down machine to do them when I was told). Should make it easy to 'injury proof' the hams which was the plan.

I'm back squatting and deadlifting as feeling more energy for it (I didn't actually expect to do a session today but track didn't yesterday didn't affect me as much as I expected).

I've also been doing some single leg drop jumps and today moved onto double leg depth jumps ending at 30 inch drop to jump to 20 inch box. I've not done much big plyo stuff before as lots of what I'd read in the past said you need to build to big strength numbers but in the short time I've doing them, they do feel like they've made a difference to how my legs feel even if there's not necessarily a speed improvement.

SPR Am trying to work out the angles involved with Nordic Hammie curls using Lat Pull!

That plyo session is well impressive. I'm not sure I've ever done single leg depth jumps. AI usually start with one leg off the box but land on two.

Meglet this shows the unassisted exercise

This shows variations including the lat pull down version I was using for assistance before I found they had a machine for it.

I'll see if I can find the machine but it was the first time I'd seen it and I would have had no idea if it wasn't pointed out to me.

That looks brutal. I can feel my hamstrings cramping just looking at it!

Sharkie second video has the lat pulldown version. I had a box in front of me as well for added safety.

Thanks re plyo. Was only drops for the single leg ones, with a hop on landing but not to a box. Would love to be able to do single leg for height but not ready for that. Squatting felt easier after as well. Kind of like how cleans sometimes help but the heavier ones tire you a bit so counteract some of the effect.

That's why assistance is needed initially and also why I hope it helps to 'injury proof' them. The brutality of it is why I've never really found a way to get them into training till now. I've done holds in the lowest position I could hold (not very low) but never been able to the full exercise.

This is the machine. The top level supports you as you go down, as you can add weight at the bottom which rises as you go down, the more weight you add, the more assistance you have.

I have a horrible feeling I tried Nordic hamstring curls sticking my ankles under the sofa edge (or something like that) - and with a big cushion to fall forwards onto if they went a bit wrong!

And that brings back memories from MANY, MANY years ago when I won't have been the only person doing sit-ups with feet held under a sofa/chair/whatever. Only thing exercised was my already strong hip flexors - did nothing for the abs!

Coach Gemma and I have worked out a couple of exercises that eliminate hamstring involvement. On me they are pretty strong and inclined to take over. Some time ago my physio person gave me a series of exercises that really improved their efficiency. Can't win can you!
