More a figure of speech - no actual squat racks free tonight, so just had the deadlift rails as 'safety rails' and only really able to take a step or two back from lifting the bar out of the rack. Will see if I can find a pic of the racks! I also do not understand Smith machines!!

The usual squat racks are fairly similar to those SPR.

Hurrah! I've just completed a deadlift PB! And one arm row and seated leg extension PBs too.

Not v much by younger standards but:
17.5 on one arm row (4 reps after 2 sets of 15kg x 8.)
Deadlift up to 47.5 - just 4 reps.

Seated leg extension still relatively easy 3 x 6 x 28.5.

The seated leg thing is new to me (don't use the machines much) so I guess I'm still finding my way with it... and I don't wan't huge quads anyway!

I'm lying !

I did TWO sets of 4 reps at 47.5 ... getting close to my body weight now (about 51 kgs at present)

Nice work Sharkie.

Finally got my drop snatch technique back to a decent level where my aggressiveness getting under the bar felt good. Still got some work to do though as there were a couple of fails in there which were down to technical errors rather than physical capabilities.

Also did clean & jerk, squats, and hang snatch (overhead position felt solid after the earlier drop snatch work).

Body absorbing the strength work a lot better now.

Fragile Do Not Bend
I need some advice ladies. I’ve been doing Body Pump type classes at the gym for the last few months and I’m having trouble with any exercises like squats where the bar is on the shoulders.

I keep having to stop and put the bar down as my shoulders ache and I get a slight tingly feeling in my arms and fingers. Is this something that will get better the more I do? I think I’ll try one of those padded things for the bar but I don’t know what they are called or where I get one from. Thanks!

You need something like this
fitness-superstore.co.uk

A good/large gym will probably have one or two in their weights room - my seaside gym is now down to one and it's a bit tatty. I'd decided to buy my own anyway as the gym at Lee Valley Indoors doesn't seem to have any... (strange because it's a great gym). My shoulders, neck and back have no padding, they're just skin and bone so the bar is uncomfortable for me, too. Not sure about the tingly thing though - that sounds nerve related (not that I know anything)

Body pump prob uses barbells? I suspect the diameter/width might be smaller than that of an Olympic bar - but I'm pretty sure there are smaller sleeves available.

Frag, maybe it's just the position that needs tweaking - ask the instructor next time.

I have a new PT and think that a little bit of lifting may soon be involved, but nothing like the one I was seeing a couple of year ago. He tried me with a bench press with the 20kg bar this morning. He could see I've done it before as I did it correctly from the off. He wanted 3 x 12 reps. He got 12, 10 and 8 - with a struggle - lots of room for improvement then. :)

Thanks Sharkie, that’s somewhere to start. I know nothing about different types of bar but I guess they are the smaller type.

I have natural padding but my upper back is quite curved so I’m guessing I’m putting pressure on a nerve somewhere.
