Tried Olympic Lifting again for the first time in 18 months - 2 years, but decided to get some proper coaching this time. 100 minutes being trained by Michaela Breeze, the heaviest weight I lifted was a 40kg clean, now feel like I’ve been hit by several trucks.

100 minutes is a lot for Olympic lifts, no wonder you're battered! 1 to 1 or seminar? How much did that cost? I know she's been promoting seminars quite a bit as I follow her stuff on FB and I've recently looked at her 14 days of free Olympic lifting videos. Nothing ground breaking in that but there was some interesting stuff in the text (eg she never loads overhead squats). |

I have a hankering for overhead squats but know my overhead lifting capacity is pretty dire right now

Michaela Breeze only does it with a bar as a warm up. Use Snatch balance for strengthening the Snatch position. Makes sense to me, I struggled with the overhead squat Vs snatch balance and snatch in terms of weight when I did all three last year.

SPR, it was a 1:1 session. Got dialled back right to basics & I’m to stick with them for at least a month. It wasn’t cheap, £70 for the session, but it was worth every penny. I learnt more in that 100 minutes than in months of other training. I’ve been looking at her 14 day beginners videos too, as you say, nothing ground breaking but some interesting stuff. Another interesting thing Michaela uses, along with the unloaded OHS, is she only uses the hang from mid thigh and above. She reckons that from around the knee develops too much momentum so detracts from the “hip snap”. |

I'm a bit scared of overheads & snatches, etc - not quite up to that yet, I don't think! Did my first proper strength sessions in ages at the weekend - decided to split my squats & deadlift sessions into separate sessions, as was finding myself too knackered to really complete the deadlifts. Went back to my previous 5RMs (65kg for squats & 70kg for deadlift) and it felt good to be back! Bit of DOMS/stiffness down the back of everything, but will give upper body a bash tomorrow. |

I'm guessing but does 5RM mean 5 rep max? Or something else entirely! Am well impressed by the weights you younger ladies throw around! |

It does indeed, Sharkie - Week 1 is one set at 5 rep max, followed by 3 more sets of 5 reps, at 10% less than my max weight (or as close as). Week 2 = 4 rep max, week 3 = 3 rep max, then 4th week is a de-load week, bringing it all right back down again to concentrate on technique. Felt good to lift heavier again PT is looking to change up my strength session after this cycle.
