EB - just reiterating what the others have said. It's really important to get the basics right so you don't hurt yourself in the future. It *will* click all of a sudden.

I would also try lifting in your bare feet, or converse type shoes. This will keep your feet firmly planted and may help with your falling forwards.

I've lost the love for lifting at the moment -well, I've lost the love for most things actually - so struggling to get myself motivated to do anything.

That's a good piece of advice re the shoes. I've worn my special weight lifting shoes for my two solo gym session so far this year and they DO make a difference. You feel secure and grounded in them! (Not so great for the calf raise things perhaps though....)

Don't give up EB. you've come a long way with the help of your PT and you'll get much further still!

AND aw, I hope you can feel happier and more positive soon Duracell.

Pleased with chest press and deadlift today.

Decided I can't be messing with the short bar that no-one knows the actual weight of so I used the Olympic 20kg bar and just went for 3 x 5.

Also decided to do standard rather than straight leg deadlift and upped the weight to 30kg. Not much by the high standards of many of you but pleasing to this little old lady at this stage of winter training.

Whole session was good - won't do detail here but I have blogged it.

Yay! I did some heavier deadlifts today too. Previous focus shifted to lower weight high reps (killer) but today did 3 X 15 with the 20kg bar to warm up, then 3 X 8 @ 40kg then attempted 3 X 2 @ 60kg, managed 1.5 reps then dropped down to 50kg and did 3 X 2 with that instead. Afterwards did a little "fun cardio" with 30 seconds chariot battle rope then straight in to 10 slam balls 3 times over with 1 minute rest between. Finished (me) off with 3 X 10 each side Russian twists with 9kg ball straight in to bicycle crunch 10 each side.... Home for food then a 5.5 mile run πŸ’ͺ Loved it

Wow Brig! Impressive training! Cardio is NEVER fun as far as I'm concerned.

Am v. envious of your 60kg deadlifts - you being a fellow dinky thing an' all. :-) Will have to check my envy by telling myself that's the difference between 50 and 64. Sad but true! ...You do inspire me to greater things though.

(but not the cardio!)

I will be 55 in a month Sharkie so not quite the gap you imagine. The cardio was only fun for the PT! I was utterly blowing!

Ten years then... :-) I'm 65 in January - new age group!

Not to make excuses (except I obviously am!) but I have noticed a BIG strength and speed fall off since I turned 60. I hate it and try to address it - but I can't fight time.

Sharkie I think what you are experiencing is entirely normal and entirely alarming! Particularly when you move in a world where you are very aware of the losses. Currently I feel I am still on an upward wave and am embracing this with the mind set that says the more strength I have the longer it will take to lose. I already have osteopenia so everything I do is for the betterment of my old age health πŸ˜ƒπŸ’ͺπŸ˜ƒ

... a weights wire for women.

And in case you're wondering about that title, well, I like alliteration and one can be too po-faced about the use of girl/lady/woman.

Here's a strength standards for women thing Duracel found for us
