Third time lucky. I unravelled the knitting again last night, because something just wasn't right about that big cable (turns out the little ones weren't right either) but think I've got it right this time.

Going back a few pages, Runner Duck: "Poor Henry" is not appropriate! He has a really mean streak and runs our four-legged cat (Ben, the loveliest, friendliest, kindest cat in the world) ragged. Looks like he's going to accommodate my knitting though, which is a Good Thing.

I finished a small thing last night so only have a larger surprise and a scarf for The Girl on the go at the moment - plus the ever present cross stitch. I'll probably finish the scarf today so I will need something small to shove in my work bag next week to tide me over until I'm off properly

I love fiddly bits too, RD. It's SO satisfying to get fine finicky knitting looking perfect :)

My current "small" project is very slubby and rustic-looking. I had a dainty little 4-ply cotton thing planned to do next, but was slightly kiboshed when I went to the cupboard to get out a the yarn and ball it in anticipation, and discovered that the blue chenille I *thought* I had was actually theyarngallery.co.uk and very definitely mauve and would not come anywhere close to co-ordinating with theyarngallery.co.uk

Back to the drawing-board, or the Ravelry 4-ply patterns that I favourited last night :)

Or maybe I should just bite the bullet and start some socks :)

I suppose it's a bit like having a kitchen full of food and not being able to find anything I actually want to eat. Which I also do.

Has anyone tried taking metal hooks / needles on to a plane? I am thinking they are probably not allowed but it would be nice to get some of my socks done rather than something chunkier which would use a plastic hook (I have 13 hours to get through...).

Apparently even bamboo needles get confiscated on a plane :(

Changed days - when I went on my honeymoon in 1990, I knitted throughout the plane journey, though I was asked to put my knitting away in its bag for take-off and landing. I think the main reason I was so excited about going to Paris was that I'd be able to go to the big department stores and buy ... Pingouin yarn! Which, even then, wasn't particularly good, but I loved the pattern books.

Goodness. You've reminded me of a four-ply angora sweater that I knitted in Pingouin yarn in 1980ish. Took a looooong time, and I don't remember what happened to it.

A quick quesiton for all you experts. I keep seeing beuatiful yarns, but have no idea how to find patterns that will use them - my knitting days were when the major mills produced actual wool in lots of colours, sent sample cards and offered patterns for all their yarns so it was easy to match.

I find it all rather confusing now, have very little research (or knitting) time after work, family and study, and don't want to end up with a stash of lovely but unusable yarn.
