Kitchener stitch - have to look it up every single time. And Judy’s magic cast. And Jeny’s stretchy bind off. Every single time. |

I rarely find myself tempted to crochet garments but this is lovely (the designer is a favourite, I made a shawl of hers): ravelry.com |

I’m doing a jumper by the same designer. The yoke is a bit big and I’ve added quite a lot of shaping to the body and sleeves. Just picked it up again last night but found I had the wrong hook which was frustrating (I wasn’t at home). I like fitted jumpers and just feel that new one would be the wrong shape for me, though it looks really interesting to make.

I do struggle a bit with crochet garments as I can never get the right gauge, my stitches are generally not tall enough. I tried to change this and just made it too loose.

I find it’s quite a different movement to knitting and I keep the yarn in the other hand. Especially if you’re used to ‘throwing’ for knitting, with crochet I tend to ‘scoop’. It’s much better for fudging mistakes and unpicking as there’s only one loop at a time!

My mum showed me how to crochet but she was left handed and didn’t follow patterns. I’ve tried using books and have done some simple ripple throws but I always need to go back to the instructions
