You make really beautiful things, icemaiden. My mildly arthritic thumbs limit a lot of my crafting at the moment, but I've had another request from DD2, which I'll have a go at, hopefully a much more straightforward one this time!

I have a draw full of patterns printed at work for jumpers and hats

I'm a slow, timid knitter so very basic and easy only - I aspire to be able to do some of the lovely things I see on here and to be able to do something without a pattern. In the past I have got patterns of lovely stuff and even bought yarn then chickened out.

I retired (I hope) I 7-8 years so maybe then lol

In the meantime I'll do my sockhead hat, then probably the jumper called Brick from drop box as that looks very simple (what does raglen (?) mean?) then I will get back into socks I think, just basic Winwick mum socks. I tried cables once and it was hard work and made them too tight!

Raglan is a type of sleeve construction, there’s an illustration of sleeve types here

interweave.com

Most patterns can be achieved with a combination of knits, purls, a few increase and decrease methods, a cast on and a bind off. Find a pattern you like which has more than 100 projects on Ravelry - by then all errors will have been noted and fixed - and follow the instructions stitch by stitch. You can knit anything you want to.

Oh, and don’t be scared to try new things - the worst that can happen is that you get to unravel it and try again.

well that says it's simple so fingers crossed - I might look for the single yoke style too as that looks like it's all in one

My problem is I am not very good at failure - I like to succeed (perfectionist?) even if it's not great I like to be able to say I finished. This is my downfall in so many areas.

I would love to be able to draw but don't have the imagination to draw something unique so have to copy and if it doesn't look right I quit! I bought new pencils when WFH but they are still unopened as I fear failing. Same with journaling - I want to but it will be messy as my writing is messy and not look as lovely as the ones you see on pinterest etc!

Why do you want to journal? Is it to sort out, write down, clarify thoughts and feelings for your own personal use? Or is it to look pretty for other people? Either motive is valid, but if it’s the former it really doesn’t matter if it’s not photo shopped neat

Meanwhile I’m swearing at a worked flat and seamed jumper with a stranded motif that I only know realise would have been better done partly in intarsia. I’ve already had to completely change yarn and needles as the gauge it was written at would have been netlike in the recommended yarn

"It's only knitting," is a good philosophy. I probably rip out about 75% of what I start because the concept was better than the reality. I'm currently rattling off hats because they're easy and I tend to finish them, unlike bigger projects.
