Think this will have to be a hat as even doubled up it'll be too thin for what I want

Double knitting is not that hard, you just need to concentrate on which side you are knitting. It is all knit or purl and the effects are impressive.

I found double knitting needed a huge amount of concentration - and counting. My tension went to pot as well, it was difficult to keep the tension steady with the constant swapping of colour and knits and purls. My daughter requested a particular quite complicated project and I launched into it with a 'how hard can it be, it's only knitting and purling' attitude. Quite hard for me, it turned out!

It depends what you want out of knitting. I need to keep my hands busy. I like knitting I can do without looking, but I also like other challenges too.
