Thanks for the link to the bag, I've 'bought' it.

Helegant - I've done an article with the thigns I find useful in sewing machines, just a few things I've put together from when others have asked. fetcheveryone.com/article-view.php?id=557 if you could add it to the sidebar. Also anyone feel free - in fact please do add to it - I may have missed off things, or you may feel completely different to me and it'd help people who are looking at buying one.

what would worry me would be the quality - it could be fantastic or it could be terrible and also the workers producing fabric that cheaply may well be being seriously exploited

Good grief. Yorkshire is the place for bargain fabrics! I thought I’d done well getting Laura Ashley home dec cotton/ linen for £10 metre in the closing down sale Should have gone to Dewsbury.
