Great makes Drell, and I also love the shorts. I have some fabric I'm not sure what to do with, maybe shorts would work? It's got a nice print but I've already made a skirt and have another planned so really need something else to stop me having too many skirts!

Thanks. The jacket was a kit from Clothkits. Not particularly highly recommended - some the instructions weren't that clear. The shorts are a pattern called Flint from Megan Nielsen. I made them longer than the actual pattern. Good clear instructions, and no zip :-)

Clothkits!! My mum used to get a lot of stuff from them. One of my first makes was theirs, they did a printed a-line wrap skirt that also came with a small similar skirt for your doll! My mum made the skirt and then helped me make the doll version.
Your sleeves look very neat though.

What I’ve noticed on the differences between knitting and sewing...

you can sew something in just a few hours. I’m really appreciating this (I am a slow knitter, but it is a slow craft)
There are usually a lot of haberdashery ‘bits’ with a sewing project. It’s tedious gathering everything and I end up having to go On line shopping
Knitting is mostly Buy yarn and pull old needles out of the drawer.

You need space for sewing

Anyone else?

Space for sewing I why my machine still hasn't come out to make masks. I made so many dresses for my daughter when she was little (from maternity frocks and shirts mainly) and miss being able to turn something into something else - but the thought of packing everything up every evening to have dinner on the table puts me off even starting!

Also remember clothkits - but they were quite expensive!

In the old days clothkits had all the cutting lines printed on the fabric. This one was a normal paper pattern and the kit included fabric, bias binding and thread.

I think it was expensive but I thought it would be an easy way to get back into dressmaking. Which was why I was disappointed that the instructions weren't better. But there are so many helpful blogs and videos on the Web that it didn't matter too much.

It’s definitely easier to have somewhere to leave the machine set up. I was planning to use my daughter bedroom while she was away for a few days, but then I remembered I needed the iron. She’s up two floors so the kitchen was much easier! I also find the ironing board good as a surface for pinning the next bit to sew.
