Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Back on topic: I'm finding it really difficult to focus long enough to crochet; I have a blanket planned (Botanica by Rachele Carmona / Cypress Textiles) but I haven't managed to start it yet.

I'm still making crochet scarves for teddies - my treble is improving.
Where is good to buy cotton for masks. Someone on FB asked.

Probably any fabric online. You wouldn’t need much. But many people have been using old shirts or sheets.

What I really need is to obtain some pipe cleaners. I have some soft brass wire from work but not sure how well it will last.

HB, did I understand you’ve made removable wires? How did you achieve that?

Lizzie, Croft Mill usually have a good selection of fun poplins. I used to buy from them mail order in the mid-80s when everything was paper catalogues and little square samples. They also have basic haberdashery (thread, elastic, fasteners).

Meglet, I sewed a mask then added a bias binding slot on the inside over the nose. Not sure how else to describe it. For the wire I covered soft garden wire in bias binding, leaving a tail so that it could be easily removed. Am going to make more tomorrow so can post pics if that would be useful.

Maybe it was your i saw with removable wires. Someone had mentioned it! I might find a way to cover the wire or some sort of slot. I’ve made 6 for now so don’t really need any more yet.

Removable wires, now that’s a good idea. I improvised a pipe cleaner by overlocking florist’s wire into a strip of sheet. I sewed it into the seam allowance of my mask so there’s no way it will come out in the wash but I could easily make them removable.

I was thinking of florist's wire too for the nose piece. Hubby doesn't work well with nose pieces thanks to his previously broken nose.

I do removable wires with pipe cleaners. I just sewed a strip of bias tape along the nose section - it‘s then open at both ends to slide them in and out. i got the pipe cleaners from Fred Aldous - HTH
Outer fabric I‘m using up off cuts from sewing projects and my stash of FQ‘s, the lining is an old sheet
