Hello knitters :-) A friend on FB is asking if anyone can recommend a reflective wool, as she wants to knit a hi-vis running hat. She's had a couple of yarn suggestions, but no-one so far who has actually used them.

Anyone here tried such a thing?

Here are the yarns so far: hobbii.co.uk hobbycraft.co.uk

There have been various discussions about this on Ravelry ( it's basically Fetch for knitters). I think some people have had good results by carrying a reflective thread along with whatever ordinary yarn they like to use. Something like this

minervacrafts.com

I'll see if I can find the Ravelry discussion and link to it

I've used a reflective yarn. Can't remember the name offhand. The effect is horrible, lots of tiny shiny slashes going in all directions.

Sounds like knitting a regular hat and sewing some scotchlite tape onto it might be better?

Malabrigo Worsted in ‘Fluo’ is a reflective yarn.

Thanks for the input :-). Someone suggested similar on FB, Meglet. It does seem easier.

I also have a reflective thread to carry with normal yarn. Winding it and making sure it's picked up with every stitch is a mighty pain in the bum.

Having failed to make a pompom wreath last year, I thought a year would give me time to make lots of pompoms. No new pompoms have magically appeared in the bag...

I’ve had a polystyrene ring for at least three years with the intention of making some sort of Christmas wreath....
