But if you have knit with that yarn before, you could do a stitch count and see how close you are to the same tension.

i used it for Gnome's doctor who scarf which he has!
I see this as stash busting :-)

I've also come up with an idea (whilst unable to sleep last night) about making a little bag to use walking and knitting. Away with school next month so have lots of opportunity to knit but no idea as to where to start with my own sewing project. Might get some cheap fabric and make a mock up?

I was going to suggest what Helegant suggested. Check gauge from a previous project, assuming you know needle size used.

Fraggle, I've just spent my tea break browsing bag patterns, I may need to dig out the sewing machine this weekend

What a great site. Teen 2 wants to do some sewing, I think a bag might be a good thing for her to try

popped into the LYS/haberdashery and now have some material to do stuff with (bags I suspect!).
About to do the curtains 1st (Gnome's first as a practice (LOL) as he isn't about to moan!) 3 pairs in total to do.

I remember there was some talk of practising/learning how to do a cable pattern (I think... but I can't seem to find it going back through the thread).

Is anyone able to recommend a basic cable pattern that I can practice on before I try to do it on my hat?

Many thanks in advance :)

Have a look at my Ravely Red Ant...I made a Very Braidy Cowl first, then fingerless gloves, then baby hats, I think. All good for practising technique. I think I used you tube vids to get me going.
