rosehip the other option would be to choose a contrast colour, either garter or icord as HB suggested. If you did an icord, you could then do that around the cuffs too without making the sleeves noticeably longer, and even round the hem, so that it didn't look too much of an afterthought.

My Mum's isn't self threading. It does all the different stitches, I think but I only use it for the basics.

I have to say I thought a self-threaded was gimmicky, but now I love it! Love my top loading bobbin too.

Brilliant Drell - a contrast icord would look great

*drum roll* I've used my machine! - It's now put away as you can have too much excitement! (but once I have done the hovering and ironing I'll play again )

Ladies if I am using double knit and want to make a 10.5" square how do I work out the number of stitches to cast on? Do I do 10.5" worth and take it from there expecting to frog it and basically do trial and error? Or is there some clever way to work out? LYS is going to yarn bomb the local town so want lots of squares giving me an excuse to use up the cheap yarn I 1st bought!

That's roughly 27cm square, the ball band should tell you how many stitches and rows for 10cm square, should be able to do a near enough calculation from there
