I love the making Christmas decorations together idea run-free, also some home made Christmas goodies as gifts is a good idea too.
I would have had both sets of parents her for Xmas lunch, I will probably see if we can arrange a zoom so we can have even the starter or pud together. May even suggest we all make something for starter and pudding we can share and we have a selection of things to chose from.
We always do some silly game which results in picking a bran tub type present out of the bag, one is sensible one is silly. Maybe I try to work out a way of doing a game so they answer Q's correctly they get the specially marked present to open - I'll have to put some thought into it..
On shopping we have a shop fairly local to us where they have goods all made by local crafters so I think I am going to go with seeing what I can get from there, but I am also suggesting that we do a token gift and we do something together as a group when we are able. I am fortunate that both sets of parents get on very well so we could probably book a cottage or two for us all to go away when we can.

I posted a similar post to my last in another thread DocM suggested I put it in here and I can see I already had done. But as a background the the additional gifted.
It started many years ago as a bran tub to replace Christmas crackers as they are very wasteful and not useful. I do Christmas cracker jokes on the gift Q on outside, A inside. We normally have a good giggle and one hear was so funny when my nana got a shaving foam - everything is useable and we did a swap after we’d opened. I progressed to personal gifts i.e. small bottle of wine or miniature whiskey for the dads, gin for mams and the little mini packs of chocolates, a nice pen, hand cream, puzzle books. They always go down well.
Definitely going to do IOU’s just need to think what.

We'll be on our own this year. I'm thinking of asking people to donate to the food bank instead of a gift

Nice idea Linds, in the past I have done a food bank collection at work, that’s not going to happen this year

I really, really hope we don't have to do the round of visits, it is nonsense, at any time, especially with the tech available now, and with the fact my OH usually has to do huge double shifts just before and just after whatever holiday she gets off. Your average non NHS person doesn't realise how knackering that is.
I'd love a Christmas at home with out visiting anyone or anyone coming to stay, not happened in ages, last time was when I single, it was great. Looking forward to it. It will be great if it happens.
2 things you could do, that is really, really great, make your own puddings and cakes, really easy, 2000 time better than shop. Decent wine is a must, not fizz, over-priced, all of it, for what it is.
and yes, as few presents as humanely possible, i.e 1.

Because we won’t be having any guests, and I’m on stand down from Dec 23rd, I thought that I’d work the Tuesday to the Thursday after Christmas, but it seems that we’re shutting down with only a standby crew on. It means that I’ll have twelve days off, which is a little disappointing as I never like long breaks during the winter.

im really enjoying not having the debate about when to fit in seeing the inlaws enmasse. usually starts around now and becomes a total pain in the butt as one sister inlaw insists it has to be before christmas not after, one has church stuff every weekend and we have brass band stuff. One brother in law is a miserable git but it has to be at their house or ours (the only ones big enough). if its at ours nothing is good enough and if its at theirs we have to take the dog which he is unhappy with and im not allowed in a carpetted room in case the dog goes with me.
We will be at home, just us, some walks, some games (card games) some telly and food
