Christmas Day is my grandson’s birthday so hopefully I will get into his house to see him opening his presents as has become tradition

Keeping it as simple as possible has always been my preference.
I'm looking at the positives, mum is bubbled with us, so no arguments where she spends Christmas and there's o need to find excuses not to go to parties/ex-work colleagues nights out etc

It's definitely going to be simpler this Christmas. It's more of a focus on getting together somehow, than giving gifts. I'd settle for hugs all round. Be careful family..I might hold on a bit tight

I'm already stressed about how to make Christmas work for all of us. Watching this thread with interest and hope

Good idea! I’m starting to think of ways to have Christmas remotely if needed.
There’s a real possibility this may be my first solo Christmas (I live alone). I’m accepting I may not see my family at all this year (just on FaceTime) - I last saw them at Christmas 2019. I was thinking that maybe we could have dinner together over FaceTime or something. And play games over FaceTime - I have done that with my sister in lockdown and it was good fun and pretty doable as we both had the game so could both set it up and follow.

For the last few years we've been tempted to do 'reduced to clear' Christmas catering. i.e. instead of stocking up with Turkey etc. weeks in advance, we go to the supermarket about an hour before closing time on Christmas Eve and see what they're discounting to get rid of. We've picked up some bargains in the past, but only ever as something to put in the freezer rather than to rely on. Could be a really nice joint of meat or side of salmon - or worse case frozen chicken nuggets...
