Welcome to the wet thread... There are some very skilled and experienced paddlers here on Fetch. (Not me, i'm just keen) |

If by 'experienced' you mean auld and past it then I'm yer man! I did once paddle to (and round) Skomer via Jack Sound but I was as sick as a dog on the way home and that was the end of my sea kayaking career. Welcome Peter. |

Welcome aboard. I'm a paddler: I'll paddle anything, anywhere, but my sea experience is currently limited to a few surf trips and some toddling around the Isle of Thanet when I was young. Living in the midlands makes the sea a long way away in any direction. I think it's time I tried something new though... It's getting to that time of year when moving water is hard to find in the UK and releases or pumps are the best option. I've had trips to the Tryweryn and Nene White Water Centre recently. (I love the way the internet spell checker starts painting my screen red when I type about paddling). My next few trips will be flat water jobs - I'm off to the Thames this weekend, and the Doggy Paddle is coming up |

Hi Peter, I have done a bit of sea kayaking, as well as flatwater. I was thinking, for those of us who paddle as well as run and get rejected from the VMLM ballot ( i.e. Most people) how about doing the kayakathon next year? It is becoming an annual event and looks good. Need to get some practice in, though, as tidal Thames is quite tricky.

We saw the Kayakathon from our water station on the Embankment. 1 event I will never do. Actually, kayaking is something I am easing into. I have no ambition to race or do challenges. Mrs is in as well. Something we are developing together. Next trip camping at Hurley, padding towards Henley 1 day and Marlow the other. Interesting thread BTW |

I like the idea of the kayakathon, looked at it earlier this year but it was just too much travelling and too much organising ... but one day, one day... it will be more survivable than the DW for sure, for which I'm hearing the start has been delayed this morning!

A London Kayakathon would be a long way down for me (+ risk of transporting kayak on car with overnights near London). Incidentally - no desire for VLM either- preferring the less crowded options (Cape Wrath next month!) |
