Yes, my blades would cost about £350 to replace. They make 1980s blades feel like pieces of plank. Last coaching session of the season this afternoon, then I'll be leading two Halloween paddles, complete with ghost stories in the week. I'm rather looking forward to it all.

Forgot to say, the best bit was finding out there's a local club, family friendly and with links to the local dinghy sailing club too. Pool sessions through the winter, river trips in the summer and marathon racing too. I might have another DW in me yet!!

Pool sessions are so worth their weight. The warm friendly water adds at least another 30 seconds of breath-holding on the capsize or roll drills, and another 20 degrees of lean when you're finding out about braces :-)

DW would be cool... in many ways...

I had a rest day yesterday but couldn't stay in on such a lovely morning.

Seven kingfisher sightings and a pair of buzzards :)

That's just gorgeous. Love kingfishers too - probably my favourite bird.

Lovely looking river JJ, so non-threatening.
Meanwhile I succumbed to peer-pressure and did my first WW trip in the club's tandem WW boat (Topo Duo) with an experienced (but uncommunicative) coach as stern paddler. He did comment that the river was a little higher and faster than he'd normally like for a first timer with no idea. But we were okay, his bracing skills were awesome. My edging skills sucked, hence the former...
That business when you're breaking out and change to the opposite edge as you get into the eddy? Yeh, that :-)
I did enjoy the wave train though

Been out on grade 2 in my own (touring) boat now. I need a neoprene deck. And a smaller backside so I can fit into a club WW boat :-)

Which river were you playing Jubear? It sounds as if you enjoyed it. There is something of a bug...

Just back from four days on Dartmoor - an invitation coached trip with a world class Wild Water paddler and two of the coaches that guided her. Dart was a bit low so we didn't do the Upper Dart but learnt a huge amount on the Loop, Lower and Teign.

On Friday I was drifting down between rapids and reflecting that there was nowhere in the world I wanted to be more :)

Then they put me in Wild Water racing boat for the first time ever and pointed me at a grade three rapid. There's nothing like a dose of adrenaline to finish your trip off.

I had a feeling you'd said you were down my way JJF - we were across the Devon border on the Barle in Dulverton.
How do those wild water racers feel? Obviously they work, but I still think they're rather an odd shape!

The WWR felt very tippy until I got it going, then it was a rocket ship. Behind me I had my friend, the international racer, yelling "paddle, paddle, paddle!" I was down schoolhouse rapids in seconds. I'm too old to take it up seriously, though.
