We had a holiday in Spain in about 1965 and took bottles of Vichy water with us in case we couldn’t buy any in Spain (which we were able to) because it was advised not to drink the tap water in those days.

My earliest memory of it is when a friend of mine used to carry 'bottled water' with her to share with her dog in the late 1980s. The joke being that only rich gullible people paid for water in bottles and she was giving it to a dog. It was, of course, an old bottle refilled with tap water. I'm sure it wasn't normal for ordinary people to buy water in a plastic bottle and carry it around all day back then. |
